Music for a church service is important but it's the skill and the cohesive efforts of the musicians to work with the Pastor and the church. Most importantly every church musician should have a relationship with God, because if not it shows in your skill and playing for a service which can be a henderance or a blessing for the sanctuary. You can never go wrong with playing a hymn when you can't think of the latest gospel or Christian song that's out. Also "slow down" a fast song, for instance the uptempo Israel Houghtan song "I Just Wanna Say" I "slowed that down" repeating the chorus part and using more dramatic diminished chords.
